My goal for this year is to have ALL students fluent with their multiplication facts 1-12 by the time STAAR rolls around in May, 2019. In order to reach this foundational goal, I am implementing the "Banana Split Challenge". For every fact family 0-12, students must answer with 100% accuracy (with no more than 5 seconds per multiplication problem) in order to be awarded an ingredient of a banana split. If they master their zero and one facts, they will earn a bowl. After they pass their two facts, they will get a spoon. From there, students can earn a banana, three scopes of ice cream, three toppings, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry. Sometime around Spring Break, I will be serving them the desserts they have earned. Please work with your student to help them earn the whole dessert. You can buy or make flash cards from any dollar store, Amazon or Walmart. You can also make them out of index cards. XtraMath is also great for teaching these skills. The link to XtraMath is on the links page of this site. Your student has their access codes in their math journals. I can also send it to you if they can't remember it.

The other counselors in the district are also going to participate, so we will be meeting at the High School Performing Arts Center for our presentation. There will be one other school with us that morning. Buses will pick us up at RPS around 9:15 and our presentation begins at 10:00 sharp. We will finish around 10:45, so we should be back on campus by 11:15.
